Our current exhibition LJMU Over Time has been curated by level 4 History and English students on a new module, ‘Practices of History’.  They have been looking at primary sources and research over the course of the module, culminating in an exhibition drawing on original material from our LJMU History Archives.

We are always keen to encourage students to engage with our collections, and students on this module have reported that this project has dispelled many of their concerns about working with primary sources. We hope to see many of them in the archives again for future research!

Module leader Dr Lucinda Matthews-Jones says “I loved teaching this module and thought it worked really well. I was amazed at how much the students got out of it and the engagement with the material was fun. The exhibition was a really nice way for them to think about how to tell a story through material rather than just through the written word.”

The exhibition is themed into four sections; Student Life, Facilities, and History of Education, all of which focus on the past using the LJMU Archives, and then a fourth section looking at current student life, education and facilities. In this last case the students selected items of their own to place into the exhibition to represent their time at LJMU.

The exhibition is on now, on the lower ground floor of Aldham Robarts library, and will be available to view during Light Night along with a selection of additional material from the LJMU Archives.
