On Saturday 18th November we are hosting a study day with the Victorian Popular Fiction Association, looking at the representation of animals in Victorian literature. The first session of the day is a hands-on workshop using the 19th century periodicals in Special Collections and Archives. Delegates will also tour the exhibition, Walking Through Time with Victoria’s Animals curated by our student interns Jade and Roisin. Speakers will present their recent research on a range of topics – expect to see dogs, cats, donkeys and lions represented – and the keynote by Steven Gray from the University of Portsmouth is on naval animals. The event costs £15 to attend and bookings can be made on Eventbrite, where the full programme for the day is available.
