It is 60 years since John Lennon first enrolled in the Liverpool School of Art, an event celebrated this week in the LJMU John Lennon Building, on what would have been his 77th birthday. We installed a small exhibition in the foyer of the building, showing magazines, books, the John Lennon Time Capsule donated by Yoko Ono, and a document listing John’s exam results from the Lettering class he attended in 1960. Anne designed the postcard shown here, which we used to collect visitors’ reflections on what John Lennon means to them. The postcards will be stored alongside the Time Capsule, to be opened in 2040.
All the students in the Art School were given the afternoon off and the opportunity to go on a bus tour of Liverpool. Special T-shirts commemorating the day were given to students and staff, and a Photobooth was available with John Lennon props to dress up in. Professor Colin Fallows hosted a Symposium in conversation with Bill Harry, Rod Murray and Helen Alexander, former classmates of John Lennon. It was a very enjoyable day, captured in the tweets and a Facebook video, available here.
