LJMU Special Collections and Archives will be expanding its presence in the Mount Pleasant Campus Library and benefiting from much-needed upgrades to the storage and accessibility of items in our collection as part of a major refurbishment of the Library.

In preparation for this vital work, LJMU SCA will close to in-person services from 10 July 2026 to September 2027.

During this period, we will:

  • continue to respond to email enquiries relating to collections we hold
  • offer an active online presence
  • offer access provisions for project work and related collections to maintain public access where needed
  • continue to digitise archive material for free on request
  • hold online workshops and seminars using our wonderful range of digitised material, or in-person at another suitable location
  • continue to accept small deposits and donations of material within our collecting remit

During this period, we will not be able to:

  • make the majority of our physical collections available to users
  • run on-site student groups and tours within the Mount Pleasant Campus Library
  • digitise any Special Collections (which means published, non-archival material) from Oct 2026 onwards
  • consider very large donation offers of new collections

We’re happy to answer any questions you may have as we prepare for this important development. To get in touch, please email archives@ljmu.ac.uk or phone 0151 231 3241.
